Hawthorn West, Inc. ("we," "us") makes the Posewise app, which uses your phone's camera to check your yoga pose alignment and build a practice plan. This policy explains what information the app collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.
The short version: Your camera feed is analyzed on your phone and never uploaded. If you create an account, we store your practice history so it isn't lost across devices or reinstalls. We use product analytics to understand how the app is used, and you can turn it off anytime. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other companies' apps.
Information we collect
Camera
Posewise needs camera access to analyze your pose. Video frames are processed on your device by a pose-detection model (Google MediaPipe) that runs locally. Camera images and video are never sent to us or anyone else.
Pose and practice data
From each assessment, the app saves:
- Body position points: the estimated positions of 33 points on your body (such as shoulders, hips, knees, and a few facial points like the eyes and nose). These are coordinates, not images.
- Alignment results: the measurements and scores calculated from those points.
- Practice activity: your training plans, completed sessions and their dates, weekly goal, streaks, and app settings such as voice coaching.
This data is stored on your device and backed up to our server under your account (see below). We use it only to run the app: to show your progress, compare check-ins, and build your plan. We don't use body position points to identify you.
Account information
If you create an account, we collect:
- Email and password: your password is handled by our authentication provider and is never stored in plain text; or
- Sign in with Apple: your email address (or the private relay address Apple provides if you choose to hide it) and, the first time you sign in, the name you share with Apple.
Usage analytics
To understand how people use Posewise and improve it, the app records events such as signing in, starting and finishing an assessment or practice session, which pose you practiced, and changes to settings like your weekly goal. Each event includes basic device information (such as device model, iOS version, app version, and language) and is linked to your account by a random user ID, never your name or email.
Some events also carry summary counts about your progress, such as how many alignment checks your plan is working on or how many improved since your last check-in. These are counts only: they never say which checks, and never include a measurement.
Analytics never include camera images, body position points, or measured alignment values. We don't collect your IP address, city, or mobile carrier for analytics.
If you're in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, analytics are off until you agree to them. Everywhere else they're on by default. Anyone can turn them off in Settings → Share Usage Data.
Inviting friends and sharing your progress
Settings → Invite a Friend, and the Share buttons on the Progress tab, open your phone's share sheet. Progress cards are pictures we draw on your phone from your results: a stick figure, dates, and counts such as "7 more measurements in range." They never include a camera image. Nothing is sent to anyone until you pick a recipient, and we don't see who that is. Each invite link carries a random invite code. If a friend enters your code when they sign up (or joins the beta through your link), we record that the code was used, linked to their account, and we count how many people each code brought in; we don't tell either of you who the other is.
Feedback you send
If you send feedback from the app (Settings → Send Feedback, the feedback button, or by shaking your phone), we receive what you write, the screen you were on, basic device and app details (app version, iOS version, device model, language), and a screenshot of the app if you leave that switch on. If you're signed in, the report is linked to your account. If you choose "You can reply to me," we also keep the email address you give so we can follow up; otherwise we have no way to contact you. Screenshots show only the app's screen, and on camera screens they are off unless you turn them on. Feedback is stored with Supabase and kept until we've dealt with it; ask us to delete a report at [email protected].
What we don't collect
- No advertising or cross-app tracking software
- No precise location, contacts, photos library, microphone recordings, or Apple Health data
- No tracking of your activity across other companies' apps or websites
How your data is stored and shared
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We use these service providers to run the app:
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Account sign-in and cloud backup | Your account information and the pose and practice data described above |
| Amplitude | Product analytics | The usage events described above, linked to your random user ID |
| ElevenLabs | Pre-recorded the voice coach's spoken cues, which ship inside the app | Nothing from you. The app plays built-in audio and never records, listens to, or analyzes your voice. |
Your cloud data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Database rules limit access to each account's data to that signed-in account. Your sign-in session is stored in the iOS Keychain.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account and synced data until you delete your account. You can delete your account and all associated data anytime in the app under Settings → Delete Account. Deleting your account permanently removes your cloud data and asks Amplitude to delete your analytics data, which it completes within 30 days. You can also email us at [email protected] to request deletion.
Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.
Your choices and rights
- Analytics: Turn usage analytics on or off anytime in Settings → Share Usage Data.
- Camera: You can turn camera access on or off anytime in iOS Settings → Posewise. The app can't analyze your pose without it.
- Access, correction, or deletion: Contact us at [email protected]. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU, UK, or California), you may have additional rights, such as getting a copy of your data or objecting to certain uses of it. We'll honor these requests as the law requires.
If you're in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK
Hawthorn West, Inc. is the controller of your personal information.
Legal basis. We process your information to provide the app and your account at your request (performance of a contract), and to keep the service secure and working (our legitimate interests). We use analytics only with your consent, which you can withdraw anytime in Settings.
International transfers. Your account, synced data, and analytics data are stored on servers in the United States. When we transfer data from the EEA or UK to the US, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK equivalent, in our agreements with service providers.
Your rights. You can ask us to give you access to your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or send you a copy in a portable format. Email [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Posewise is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll post the new version here and change the "Last updated" date. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we'll notify you in the app.
